I just found out that the guy that designed Central Park also designed the Allegheny Cemetery - so it would have a park feel to it.

I wonder if there's any way I can get Neil to start calling out "Ho Ro My Nut Brown Maiden" when we get lost in a crowd or a bar or sporting event - its much less common than my name and way more epic.

For next year's birthday, I recommend that you take some bagpipe lessons. Then you can serenade your sweetie, wearing full kilt and spats of course. As 'Ho Ro My Nut Brown Maiden’ has apparently been done to death, I might recommend AC/DC's 'It's a Long Way to the Top if You Wanna Rock n Roll,' which is the only rock song I know that has bagpipes.

Also, a cement truck? Seriously? They at least could have decorated it...or, you know, fill in some potholes.

I was surprised to read/hear that it was the Parkway West, not the East, that was the ninth-most congested. How could the latter not be ranked above that?!

Great post, by the way. I love stats and numbers. :-)

Yeah, I'm not saying it was all Obama, but the NAACP had plenty of time to give their support but they waited until after the President. My only criticism is that they all waited until AFTER the North Carolina vote to lead on the issue.

Won't be surprised to see some kind of "only rich people can vote" bill at some point. Maybe they'll go all colonial and make land ownership a prerequisite for voting. I think their goal is for all voting to be done in board rooms. :^)

Gay Marriage: There has been considerable time and effort given to coaxing more same-sex marriage support from the black churches. In fact, it was key to getting the law passed in Maryland when a couple of black pastors spoke in support, to the General Assembly. Also, the NAACP has publicly come out (so to speak) in favor.

Voter Fraud: The Republicans have to do SOMETHING to address the fact that they mainly represent 1% of the people, so this is one more weapon in the arsenal. It's not even cynical to suggest that their anti-voter fraud legislation is about vote suppression, it's stone cold fact. Those numbers (which have been around for some time) prove it. No rational person could conclude that ID-related voter fraud is a more serious concern than putting up barriers around the Constitution-given right to vote.

Lastly: Love that picture.

Great read, my friend. My path was very similar, except that I did get to experience disco clubs. Well, not "Studio 54" caliber clubs, but the best Toledo had to offer. The thing I loved about the club we went to was that it had a dance floor that lit up in squares, like the one in Saturday Night Fever. (Advice: skip the movie, watch the dance clips on YouTube.)

Ah, Farrah still warms the cockles of my heart.
